PEOPLE COUNT: IN OUR BACKYARD

1995

Award-winning photojournalist Barbara Pyle takes to the mean streets of Atlanta, Georgia to put a human face on the issues of poverty, violence and drug addiction. Pyle befriends the city's homeless, goes to a prison to meet a former gang member, and learns how to box from a former crack addict. Throughout her journey, she meets individuals who have dedicated their lives to breaking the cycle of despair so many people face. Meet Leonard Tate, Director of Trinity House a recovery center, which teaches the men to “Believe in yourself and you can be anything you want to be!” The journey ends at the Social Summit in Copenhagen, where Heads of State are discussing ways to remedy the world's social ills.
